Shared Links

Share a read-only conversation link without granting access to its design project, and review what recipients can see.

Share a saved Trace conversation through the web dashboard. A shared conversation is not a shared design project or working copy.

Before sharing

You must own the conversation. Anyone with the link and a Trace account can view it; the link is not restricted to your team or a named recipient.

Link previews can expose the conversation title, summary, thumbnail and owner name without sign-in. Do not put sensitive information in those fields.

  1. Open Dashboard → Sessions.
  2. Find the conversation you own and choose Share Link from its card's More options menu.
  3. Copy the link shown in the sharing dialog and send it only to your intended recipients.

The dialog may still be titled Share Project, but this action shares the conversation. If an active link already exists, Share Link returns that link; opening the dialog again does not revoke it or make it private.

If a companion conversation is not available in dashboard Sessions, do not assume it can be shared from there. Local chat history and a dashboard conversation are separate availability requirements.

What recipients can do

  • Sign in to Trace and view the conversation content exposed by the shared page.
  • Read the shared conversation without continuing it or modifying the owner's conversation.

The shared page is not a complete CAD handoff or a guarantee that every tool card, attachment or historical message is rendered. Inspect the recipient view before relying on it for a review.

Sharing chat does not grant access to an Altium/KiCad project, a local working copy, a cloud repository, private project files or Artifacts shelves. However, copies of those files' content already included in messages or tool results may be exposed. Share the design through its supported project-access workflow and review those permissions separately.

  1. Return to the conversation in Dashboard → Sessions.
  2. Open Share Link and choose Revoke Link.
  3. Check the original link afterward to confirm it is no longer available.

Revocation prevents further access through that link once it has taken effect. It cannot recall content someone already copied, screenshots or previews cached elsewhere. Do not rely only on the dialog closing if you need to confirm access was removed.

Ask the recipient to sign in and check that the full link was copied. An unavailable link may have been revoked; a loading or network error does not establish revocation. If the result is unclear, preserve the original link and contact hello@buildwithtrace.com without posting private conversation content publicly.
