Keyboard Shortcuts

Native Trace default hotkeys, macOS differences and how to check your configured bindings.

These are native Trace editor defaults, not a shortcut map for the Electron companion or its Altium/KiCad host. Bindings can vary by build and your hotkey configuration; check Product availability.

Ctrl/Cmd below means Ctrl on Windows/Linux and Command on macOS. Other keys retain their meaning: do not replace every physical Ctrl shortcut with Command. macOS Redo, zoom and zone defaults have explicit differences.

Common commands

  • Show/hide AI chat: Ctrl/Cmd + I
  • Command Box: Ctrl/Cmd + K
  • New/open document: Ctrl/Cmd + N / Ctrl/Cmd + O
  • Save: Ctrl/Cmd + S
  • Undo: Ctrl/Cmd + Z
  • Redo: Ctrl + Y on Windows/Linux; Cmd + Shift + Z on macOS
  • Copy/paste: Ctrl/Cmd + C / Ctrl/Cmd + V
  • Select all: Ctrl/Cmd + A
  • Find: Ctrl/Cmd + F
  • Preferences: Ctrl/Cmd + ,
  • List current hotkeys: Ctrl/Cmd + F1
  • Delete selected item: Delete on Windows/Linux; Backspace (the keyboard's Delete key) on macOS

The focused control matters. Copy, paste and selection act on text when the chat or a text field has focus; canvas commands require the relevant editor. Escape exits or cancels the current interactive tool; it is not a guarantee that an AI turn or completed file edit is undone.

Schematic editor

  • Place symbol: A

The Electrical Rules Checker has no universal default Ctrl + Shift + E binding. Open it using the available command/control or assign a hotkey.

PCB editor

  • Route track: X
  • Route selected items: Shift + X
  • Route differential pair: 6
  • Toggle the active layer pair / transition with a via while routing: V
  • Tune single-track length: 7
  • Tune differential-pair length/skew: 8 / 9
  • Add filled zone: Ctrl + Shift + Z on Windows/Linux; Option + Z on macOS
  • Rotate: R
  • Change side/flip: F
  • Edit properties: E
  • Move: M
  • Drag a track joint freely: G
  • Next/previous layer: + / -

The Design Rules Checker has no universal default Ctrl + Shift + D binding. For board update and 3D viewing, use the installed command/control; their entry points depend on editor and workbench context.

Routing and tuning shortcuts start interactive tools, not a global advanced layout job. Review actual connectivity and rules after editing.

View navigation

  • Zoom in/out at cursor: F1 / F2 on Windows/Linux; Cmd + + / Cmd + - on macOS.
  • Zoom to fit: Home on Windows/Linux; Cmd + 0 on macOS.
  • Center on cursor: F4.
  • Select a zoom area: Ctrl/Cmd + F5, then drag the area.
  • Refresh: F5 on Windows/Linux; Cmd + R on macOS.

Mouse-wheel zoom and pan depend on your mouse/navigation preferences. Laptop function keys may require Fn. Simulation plots have their own Fit/zoom controls; these canvas defaults do not describe every viewer.

Customize or inspect

Open Preferences and its Hotkeys page, or use List Hotkeys for current bindings. In builds with Command Box, search the action by name; this also helps when a Simple interface does not show its menu entry.

Check for conflicts before assigning a shortcut. Export/import controls, where available, transfer configured bindings, not a guarantee that every action exists in another product or version.
