Profile & Account

Your Trace profile is visible to team members and on shared conversations.

Editing Your Profile

Go to Dashboard > Settings to update:
  • Display name — Your username (2-30 characters, letters, numbers, and underscores only)
  • First and last name — Used in emails and team notifications
  • Headline — A short professional tagline (max 160 characters)
  • Bio — About you (max 500 characters)
  • Location — City, state, or country
  • Website — Personal or company URL
  • Social links — X (Twitter), LinkedIn, GitHub handles
Your display name must be unique across Trace. It’s used in your public profile URL.

Upload a profile photo from the Settings page. Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP. Maximum size: 2MB.

Public Profile

If you’re a beta user with a display name set, you have a public profile at:
buildwithtrace.com/u/yourusername
This shows your display name, headline, bio, and social links. It does not show your email, conversations, or usage data.

Changing Your Email

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Security
  2. Click Change email
  3. Enter your new email address
  4. Confirm the change via the verification email sent to your new address
Changing your email affects your login credentials. Team invites sent to your old email will no longer work — ask your team admin to re-invite you at the new address.

Changing Your Password

  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Security
  2. Click Change password
  3. Enter your current password and new password

Deleting Your Account

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone:
  1. Go to Dashboard > Settings > Account
  2. Click Delete account
  3. Confirm by typing your email
This removes your profile, conversations, and version history. If you’re a team member, you’ll be removed from all teams. Active subscriptions are cancelled.
