# Sign In with Email Link

> Passwordless login using a magic link sent to your email

# Sign In with Email Link

Trace supports passwordless authentication. Instead of remembering a password, you can sign in with a one-time link sent to your email.

## How It Works

1. On the login page, click **Sign in with email link instead**
2. Enter your email address
3. Click **Send sign-in link**
4. Check your inbox for an email from Trace
5. Click the link in the email — you're signed in

  The link expires after 10 minutes. If it expires, go back to the login page and request a new one.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue                      | Solution                                                                         |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Email not received         | Check your spam/junk folder. Ensure `hello@buildwithtrace.com` is not blocked.   |
| Link expired               | Go back to the login page and request a new link. Links expire after 10 minutes. |
| "Invalid or expired" error | The link was already used or has expired. Request a new one.                     |
| Wrong email                | Make sure you're checking the inbox for the exact email address you entered.     |

## Security

* Each magic link can only be used once
* Links expire after 10 minutes
* The link is tied to the specific email address — it cannot be used by a different account
* If you're signing in from the desktop app, you'll be redirected back to the app automatically after authentication

  Magic links are an alternative to password-based login. You can still use your password if you prefer. Both methods work with the same account.
